DVD drive not working error code 39

If your DVD drive doesn't show up in My Computer, the first troubleshooting step is to check Device Manager to see if there are errors. DVD drives with errors usually show a yellow exclamation sign in device manager. Double-clicking the exclamation sign will show why the device is not working and an error code. Fixing this problem entails editing the registry, I suggest you create a restore point before going ahead.If your error code is 39, here is how to fix it:

  1. Click Start,Run then type regedit,hit Return
  2. Navigate to the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  3. On the right side of the registry editor,located UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry keys and delete them.
  4. Restart your computer, the DVD drive should work fine now.
If you are not comfortable with editing the registry, you can use Microsoft's Guided Help to fix the problem. Go to this link,scroll down and click Download Guided Help.
